WNB: A bucket list is full of things you want to do before you die. Some people want to travel the world; others want to go skydiving. But today's entry isn't about your bucket list. For your writer's notebook entry today, create a REVERSE bucket list: a list of 5-7 things you hope you never have to do before you die, like being alone in nature for an extended period of time.

We went over the Antigone test from last week.

Students received the details for the Performance Task 2 One Pager assignment. Students will have class time to complete this project, which is a major grade and due before they leave class on Friday, 5/17. Students have the option of using an Apple Pencil to create this project digitally. I can't wait to see what they come up with!

Students used the first 25 minutes of class to read, annotate, and respond to today's article of the week then read independently.

We discussed character archetypes that we found in "The Scarlet Ibis." We then looked for situational and symbolic archetypes in the story.

I briefly introduced the next major grade, and students brainstormed with their groups to come up with a common theme for 2 different texts. We'll go into more depth on this assignment tomorrow.

WNB: Why is it that we sometimes fear people who are different? Why do many people think it's so important to fit in? If someone doesn't mind being different, why do we often still pressure them to conform?

We added examples to the character archetypes in the archetypes notes packet (these notes are available under the Unit 2 Module on Canvas). We read "The Scarlet Ibis" and looked for archetypes in the story. We will continue this work tomorrow.

Students took a few minutes at the beginning of class to check their Antigone test grades in Skyward. Students who scored below 70% should plan to retake the test on Thursday during A block. We will go over the test in class on Friday.

Students had 25 minutes to work with their groups to finish up the 5 Conflicts assignment. Groups then presented an outline of their scene to the class. I was very impressed with the writing these students produced!

Students used the remaining class time to work on the individual part of the 5 Conflicts assignment. This should be turned in on Canvas by 11:59pm tonight. The assignment can be found under the Unit 2 Module. Students who have difficulty turning in the assignment should plan to come in before school tomorrow. If you wait until class starts, I'll assume you needed more time to finish, and the assignment will be late.
